SEO Overview
Just how do the Search Engines rank websites?
Website Optimisation or Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is the practice of building or modifying a website so that it can be properly read and indexed by search engines.
Search Engines have software ‘robots’ also known as ‘spiders’ which continually crawl the Internet, going from website to website, page-to-page, link-to-link, analysing hundreds of factors on every page as they go.
We’ve all heard about “keywords” and “meta tags”, but these spiders are interested in dozens of both 'on-page' and ‘off-page’ factors. For example, the relevance of the pages content to the keywords and the number of back links to a website have an enormous influence on a website position in search engines such as Google.
Each Search Engine has its own unique algorithm and these algorithms are continually changing to ensure that the freshest and most relevant websites appear near the top of the Search Engines results pages. What is best for Google is not always what is best for Yahoo or MSN so we have to consider a number of factors in our website optimisation process as well as keeping up with the latest algorithm changes.
It is also important to remember that your competitors are likely to be updating their websites in order to improve their own position, maybe on a daily basis. If they are appearing at the top of the search engines for your preferred keywords, it is through a lot of hard work and clever optimisation rather than good fortune.
With our website optimisation services, we can get you up to the top of the rankings along with your competitors so you will enjoy increased performance and with that will come increased sales.
It is also worth mentioning that there are an awful lot of ‘unethical’ ways to get your website to the top of the listings, in the short term.
But be warned – these so called ‘black-hat’ methods are being picked up by the search engine spiders every day and websites can be blacklisted – meaning your website will instantly disappear from the listings.…. So be very wary about any ‘too good to be true offers’ you might see in your email in-box on a daily basis.
